Resizing, Rotation and Ordering Objects
- Re-open
the file Exercise 1 Tree.svg from the previous tutorial The selection Tool Part 1. This is your saved file from the previous exercise.
- Zoom in. Enable the Selection tool.
Click on a lemon. Then click on the same lemon again. Notice how the arrows change. The transformation arrows are used to reshape objects. Dragging different arrows produces different kinds of effects. Go ahead, try it!
- In scaling mode, you can maintain proportions by pressing Ctrl while dragging. In rotation mode, Ctrl+drag restricts rotation to 15 degree increments.
- Have you noticed that some objects seem to be in front of or behind each other? You can change their positions relative to each other, in different ways. First try the buttons shown to the left, which are found on the bar.
- Next try Object menu > Raise, Lower, et al. From those menu items, notice what their key shortcuts are, and try those too.
- To select multiple objects at once, drag the mouse around them.
Also, Shift+click adds more single objects to an existing selection.
- To Delete something, select it and press Delete key.
- You can deselect, or cancel a selection, by clicking any empty area of the canvas, or press the Esc key.
- If you’re finished practicing this lesson, save the file with Ctrl+S.
